In the daytime we watch the grass
At night we watch till the TV fizzles dead
Cracked and aching with the slog
We two tired hearts are pulled along
As tethered children in the fog
Defy another day to dawn
We huddle together in dark sleep
Fearful of another day
Proclaimed by the scratching of sunlight on glass
We arise
To the growing of grass
